As a supplier of flexible flat cables (FFCs) for airbag signal transmission in the steering wheel, SUMIDA flexible connections GmbH provides cable designs with a specific resistance rating and also with a specific current rating. In this case the special geometrical situation of the clockspring is taken into account. In particular with short flat cables that require a copper thickness of 35µm, the issue of current transmission poses a conflict of targets between mechanical flexibility and line resistance, e.g. for steering wheel heating.

SUMIDA flexible connections GmbH designs the cable system and tests the current overtemperature in the critical temperature ranges. The adjacent charts show the temperature rise under current load. The limit temperature of 125°C results from the properties of the foil and adhesive system.
